----------------------------------------------------------

Autoimmune diseases typically affect up to 8% of total populations and may include any one or more of the 80-100 identified autoimmune disorders, and specifically including: Eczema, Psoriasis, Vitiligo, Thyroid, etc.

Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease that affects less than 1% of populations. And many people with vitiligo also have one ore more of the following other autoimmune diseases (such as alopecia areata-totalis-universalis, thyroid, asthma, etc.). While it is not uncommon for most persons with Vitiligo to display symptoms during childhood or/and before the age of 40, extreme stress and environmental or health factors can also trigger (more sudden) adult-onset symptoms of Vitiligo when no other health or autoimmune issues are present or later in life AFTER the age of 40.

For most people living with Vitiligo camouflaging the affected areas of the face and body with makeup and/or full body sunless tanning has been the only realistic treatment option.  However, in recent years, encouraging breakthroughs in both medical treatment and holistic/natural path treatment options have been made.

The most successful medical treatments for Vitiligo include:

1. Protopic 0.1%- Tacrolimus Ointment is used for the treatment of other autoimmune disease (moderate to severe eczema), now shown in research to successfully treat more difficult (mild to moderate) forms of Vitiligo when applied to affected areas. And in some cases, even full
re-pigmentation has been observed. Tacrolimus 0.1% is used in persons older than 17 years of age and  Tacrolimus 0.03% is the strength used in children younger than 17 years of age.

2. Depigmentation Therapy. Recommended only in patients with Vitiligo Universalis (where de-pigmentation occurs in at least or greater than 50% of the body, combination (Q-Ruby Laser + Topical) de-pigmentation therapies are typically used:
a. MBEH / Monobenzylether of Hydroquinone Topical- Applied twice daily for many months during depigmentation therapy (may take up to 2years).
b. Q-Switched Ruby Laser for Depigmentation + MBEH / Monobenzylether of Hydroquinone
c. Q-Switched Ruby Laser for Depigmentation + 4-MP / 4-Methoxy-Phenol Topical Cream

--------

The most successful Organic/Homeopathic/Naturalpath treatments for Vitiligo include:

1. Ginger Root Homeopathic Remedies.
a. Ginger Root Tea with Turmeric. Between 2-4 days per week, on an empty stomach, simply boil ½ Ground Ginger Root and 1tsp Turmeric (2-parts turmeric +/plus 1-part ginger) in distilled water and drink as an unsweetened tea. This has been shown to aid in re-pigmentation and maintenance for individuals ages 18 and older.
b. Ginger Root Smoothie. Enhance vegetable/fruit smoothies with 1-2 a thumbnail size of ginger Root (cleaned peeled and diced—extra can be frozen and stored in ziplock for freshness). This has been shown to aid in re-pigmentation and maintenance for those ages 18 and older.
c. Ginger Root Rub. Each morning and night, simply rub several-thumbnail-size pieces (one at a time in succession) of raw ginger root on the affected Vitiligo areas. This has been shown to aid in re-pigmentation and maintenance for those ages 18 and older.

2. Psoralen Rich Foods. Psoralen has been shown to aid in re-pigmentation of skin. Include foods rich in psoralen such as Celery, Cucumbers, Figs, Cilantro in nutritional intake and in fruit/vegetable smoothies.
