Essential Consumer Tips for Choosing Your Product [Basic Ingredient Guidelines]

Even if you don’t worry about ingredients, it’s important to think about the carbon foot-print that the ingredients within your product may leave upon the environment. And until we demand more from manufacturers in general, we won’t get the type of natural, quality ingredients in our products we deserve.

Organic is better. There is a huge difference in manufacturer’s required consumer safety standards and guidelines for products that say Natural, and products that say Certified Organic.

If it says Organic, make sure that it is Certified Organic and not simply a product that contains a few organic ingredients.

Avoid Products Formulated With:

Formaldehyde (a cancer-causing carcinogen)
(in shampoo, there is no reason for any 'alcohol-based' binders to be in your product)
Mineral Oil
(Nursery Jelly is okay for diapering or soothing skin rashes, but not in your styling or hair grooming product)
Synthetic or Chemical Colorants
Artificial Preservatives
PPD  /  Para-Phenylenediamine
(there are plenty of gentle, natural foaming agents available and absolutely no need for the use of harmful sulfates in your shampoo or any liquid soap product)

Avoid any product formulated with more than 15-total-ingredients.

Look for all-natural bar soaps with less than 8 ingredients, total:
1. Natural-Cosmetics Raw Handmade African Black Soap
(less than 5 ingredients total) (
2. Nasabb’s Authentic African Black Soap
3. Nasabb’s Honey Oatmeal Soap (

(unless you are allergic) Look for Shampoo or Liquid Soap products formulated exclusively with natural foaming agents such as Castile Soap, Yucca Root Extract, Soap Wort or Quillaja Bark and NO synthetic foaming agents added.

Look for ingredients in your products that provide nutrients and promote healing such as;
Avocado Oil, Coconut Oil, Rose Hip Seed oil, Natural Vitamin E Oil, Castor Oil, High Oleic Sunflower Oil, Carrot Oil, Pumpkin Seed Oil, Rosemary Oil, Peppermint Oil, Shea Butter, Whole Leaf Aloe Vera Gel, Sunflower Lecithin, Tea Tree Oil… Note; products containing essential oils (i.e., rosemary oil and peppermint oil, etc.) should not be used by pregnant women or on very young children (toddlers).
